Video Games Assailed in Asia

Responding to complaints from parents and educators, President Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines Nov. 19 issued an order banning video games and closing video game arcades.

Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia had already enacted similar bans.  The Singapore ministry of culture Aug. 26 game the operators of public video game centers one year to close and said that licenses would not be renewed.  Malaysia Oct. 4 banned the importation of video games because of their "undesirable effect on children."   The licenses of 25 existing Malaysian video arcades had already been suspended.
