We are fixing up the house everywhere. Hopefully we will be done by winter. We found out that this house was probably built sometime in the 1870's. It was originally a house at Fort Sanders which used to be a bit south of town about 100 years ago. When they closed the fort, this house and about 8 others now in this area were moved here and sat down on new foundations. Each house was then renovated in some way and made bigger. This house had yellow wood siding on it at one point but was probably stuccoed during the depression when the cement plant here has to give employees cement instead of pay since times were so hard. There are an amazing amount of stucco houses here in town.

Here are some of the pictures of the inside of the house that we are working on.

Looking down the Stairs: We tore out the wall on the right and also took out the wall at the bottom so that the stairs are now a part of the living room. We will put in a bannister and finish off the post at the bottom with nice wood.
Living Room looking over at the Stairs: This is how the whole thing looks from downstairs, we removed the entire wall along the stairs and the wall/doorway that was between the living room and the entryway. I still have to build the halfwall that goes to the bottom of the stairs but the girder that supports the floor joists is finally in place.
Living Room from Kitchen doorway: Here is a picture that is indentical to one farther down on the page showing the 'before' state of the room. Hopefully when we are done, it will look just like it did before but better ;-)
Other Corner of the Living Room: This is looking into the Kitchen from the LR. All the walls used to be Plaster and Lathe, it was a real mess taking it all down, unfortunately we don't have any pictures of the rubble though. We had to shim out each stud so that the new walls were perfectly level and then install insulation on the outside walls.
Kitchen Shot: Just your basic Kitchen shot here, now it has furniture though. We got a set of 6 wooden chairs from Shannon's work for $15 each. They are really nice and it will be great when the Dining Room is finally done.

The downstairs Bathroom: Here is how the bathroom looks now. The walls have been shimmed out and insulated. Now the greenrock is up and we are about ready to start mudding the walls. We saved the Clawfoot tub but the rest is going to be replaced. Shannon picked out out some 'bone' tile that we will put down on the floor.
