TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 95-010a

DATE: NOVEMBER 9, 1995 SUBJECT: CPU, LED DIAGNOSTIC ERROR CODES TO: ALL DISTRIBUTORS GAME: PINBALL MAGICÔ REASON FOR BULLETIN: TROUBLESHOOTING TOOL FOR CPU BOARD AFFECTS S/N’s: ALL CPU PCB NORMAL OPERATION: LED 1 GOES BRIGHT THEN DIMS 4 TIMES PER SECOND LED 2 ON CONSTANTLY led 2 led 1 MONITORS +5VDC SUPPLY FOLLOWING IS THE SEQUENCE TO TROUBLESHOOT A CPU BOARD. 1. AFTER THE CPU STARTS IT WILL FIRST TURN LED 1 OFF. IF LED 1 STAYS ON CONTINUOUSLY, CHECK U8 PIN 48 ON THE MICROPROCESSOR MAKING SURE IT IS NOT RESET. IF OK, CHECK CPU CLOCK CIRCUIT, ADDRESS AND DATA BUSES, INTERRUPT LINES, ETC.. 2. THE CPU WILL DO SOME SYSTEM CHECKS, IF THERE IS AN ERROR THE CPU WILL TRY TO DISPLAY AN ERROR MESSAGE ON THE DISPLAY, THEN IT WILL BLINK THE LED 1 FULL ON TO FULL OFF (1 SECOND PER BLINK). SEE TABLE ON THE FOLLOWING PAGE TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM AREA. 3. AFTER ALL CHECKS ARE MADE, THE CPU WILL THEN START ITS MAIN PROGRAM AND FLASH THE LED 1 [FROM DIM TO ON] 4 TIMES A SECOND. AT THIS TIME THE CPU IS RUNNING NORMALLY.
